Please join us for PHSSA's May the 4th Festival!

When: Sunday, May the 4th, 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Where: PHSSA - 3411 Semmes Avenue, Richmond, VA 23225
Who: We'd love to see current students and families, incoming students and families, alumni and their families, teachers and staff and their families, and any community supporters! Please help us plan and let us know if you're coming!

Admission is free! When you make a donation (suggestion of $5 per person),  purchase raffle tickets, purchase plants, or bid on online auction items, you help us support our Mighty Oaks and PHSSA teachers and staff.

Online Auction: Our online auction is LIVE! We have something for everyone. Bidding is open until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, May the 4th. If you are at the festival and have the winning bid - you can take your item home!

Student Experiences Raffle:  Our spectacular teachers and staff are offering some amazing student experiences! Each student received one free raffle ticket at Amaze Day. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 each. Winners will be drawn at the end of the Festival and notified via Class Dojo. Students do not need to be present to win.

Raffle: During the festival, we'll have a raffle with drawings throughout the event! Tickets are $1 each. We have some amazing prizes! You must be present to win.

Activities:

  • Light Swords - Kids can customize their own light swords! Thank you to Advanced Plumbing, LLC for donating the materials!
  • Paper Spaceships - Build your own paper spaceship and see how far into the grove it flies!
  • Screen Prints - Visit the StudioTwoThree print truck and make your own art! You can bring your own t-shirt or bag for this project or use our paper. We will have blank canvas bags for purchase!
  • Face Painting, Balloon Animals & Glitter Tattoos
  • May the 4th Trivia
  • Costume Contest

Food: We will have burgers, hot dogs, boardwalk fries, chips, shaved ice, bottled water, and an out of this world blue beverage for purchase. Food/Item Tickets are $1 each.

4 Tickets - Hamburger, Veggie Burger or Boardwalk Fries

3 Tickets - Hot Dog, Veggie Dog or Shaved Ice

1 Ticket - Chips, Bottled Water, Lemonade or Blue Beverage

Plant Sale: Please consider supporting our gardens program by purchasing plants grown by our students and garden committee. We'll have fruits, veggies, flowers and herbs! Plants will be priced $2-5, and proceeds will benefit our gardens programs.

New Families: If your student will be new to PHSSA next year, please come get familiar with the campus, talk to the PTA and meet other new families. Please meet at the picnic tables in the garden at 1:30 p.m. to meet the PTA and other new families!

Music: We'll be playing family friendly music all afternoon. Keep an ear out for some Mighty Oak originals! And you'll know the party's over when everyone joins in for the PHSSA Song!

Student Experiences Raffle


Our spectacular teachers and staff have offered some amazing experiences for our Mighty Oaks!

  • Books: One winner gets to choose FIVE books from the book table!
  • PHSSA Principal Experience: One winner gets to shadow Ms. Hudson for two hours!
  • Lunch with the Principal: One winner will enjoy a takeout lunch with Ms. Hudson!
  • Lunch with the Assistant Principal: One winner will enjoy a pizza lunch with Mr. DeVaughn!
  • Be School Counselor for a Day: Have you ever wanted to help your friends, make big decisions, and spread kindness around PHSSA? It's your time to read, listen, and lift others up! Let's make PHSSA the kindest place it can be! One winner will get to:
    • Make the morning announcements
    • Hand out positive notes to classmates
    • Sit in the special counselor's chair
    • Plan a fun kindness activity for your class
  • Baseball Game with Mr. DeVaughn: One winner and their family will get to attend a baseball game with Mr. DeVaughn. Family will be responsible for transportation.
  • A Movie with Ms. Tyree: One winner and a friend get to see a movie at Movieland with Ms. Tyree. Family will be responsible for transportation to and from movie theater.
  • Hangout with Charlie & Ms. Shrader: One winner will get to hangout after school with Ms. Shrader and her bearded dragon Charlie! Family will be responsible for transportation home after school.
  • Roller Skate with Ms. Michael: One winner, their PHSSA student siblings, and one friend for each PHSSA student spend an afternoon roller skating with Ms. Michael! Skating will be at Skate-away roller rink during open skate on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. Family will be responsible for transportation to and from roller rink.
  • Crossroads Date with Ms. Luhmann: One winner and a friend will go to Crossroads. Family will be responsible for transportation.
  • Create Pet Rocks with Ms. Chamblin: Ten winners will enjoy making pet rocks with Ms. Chamblin after school. Family will be responsible for transportation home from school.
  • Chess or Board Games with Mr. Fisher: One winner will either get an afternoon chess lesson or play board games with Mr. Fisher. Family will be responsible for transportation home from school.
  • Visit the Science Museum of Virginia with Ms. Hamlet & Ms. Wood: One winner and a friend will get to explore all things science with PHSSA's science teachers! Family will be responsible for transportation to and from the Science Museum.
