PHSSA Programs
All Kids Bike Initiative
PHSSA is partnering with All Kids Bike on a mission to teach our kindergarten students how to ride a bike in PE class.
Amaze Day
Amaze Day started as an idea for an outdoor interactive environmental science and art event with stations for students to rotate through. PHSSA wanted the event to inspire amazement from our Mighty Oaks and parent volunteers!
Arts Ignite
During our Intercessions, students may be invited to participate in Arts Ignite! This program will have a theme, and engage students with the theme through classes in theater, dance, acting, music, and visual arts.
Camp Mighty Oaks
Our Fourth and Fifth Graders have the opportunity to spend a night at Camp Mighty Oaks! We travel by bus from the school to Pocahontas State Park. The trip is filled with experiences that combine physical education, environmental education and science!
Clubhouses
After Friday Morning Meeting, we go to our Clubhouses! You can read more about them here.
Kayaking
Our Fifth Graders have the opportunity to explore Dutch Gap in kayaks. Exploration of Dutch Gap combines physical education and environmental education.
We're very appreciative of Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation for helping us make this experience possible.
Kids to the Park Grant
The Kids to the Park Grant is through the National Park Trust. The grant is for in park education and stewardship to increase outdoor play and awareness.
Learn to Swim
Where our second graders learn to swim!
Our Gardens
Our gardens are an important part of our curriculum. We have a variety of gardens on campus, including our Butterfly Garden - which is certified and nationally registered as an Official Monarch Waystation!
Read To Them
At PHSSA, we are very fortunate to be a part of the Read to ThemĀ® family. Since we joined the One Richmond One Book program, PHSSA students, teachers, staff, and families have experienced reading The Trumpet Swan; The Toothpaste Millionaire; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; Poppy; EllRay Jakes is a Rock Star; Friendship According to Humphrey; The Lemonade Crime; and Cleo Edison Oliver, Playground Millionaire.
Walk/Run for the Arts/Science
This is PHSSA's student fundraiser! We alternate between raising funds to support our Science curriculum and our Arts curriculum. Our students walk or run around the lake in Forest Hill Park. Our students seek sponsorship - either per lap or in a lump sum.
We always need family volunteers to make this event a success!
