Parent Questions and Answers
Below are some FAQs from new PHSSA families. Thank you to the parent volunteers who collected the questions and found out the answers.
DRESS CODE
NOTE: IT IS IMPORTANT TO TAKE THE DRESS CODE AS LITERALLY AS POSSIBLE. THIS WILL CUT DOWN ON CONFUSION AND LIMIT DISAPOINTMENT WHEN ITEMS ARE DEEMED UNACCEPTABLE
Q: Do the sneakers need to be solid black or white?
A: Yes, the sneakers should be solid black or white. The intention is to cut down on branding.
Q: I purchased black converse sneakers for my child with a white star. Is this acceptable?
A: No, the shoes should be solid white or black.
Q: I've already purchased some clothing from Old Navy's uniform section and wanted to be sure that this sweater was okay. It is a knit sweater, but has a hood.
A: Hoods on sweaters are acceptable.
Q: Are there are any restrictions for backpacks and lunch bags?
A: No, there are not any restrictions on backpacks and lunch bags.
Q: Just wondering if the Rugbys sold in Lands End school uniforms are okay. They are solid Navy but have a white collar.
A: No, Rugby's are not okay. Shirts must be solid navy or white polo shirts as stated in the dress code.
Q: Are pants okay to have cargo pockets?
A: Cargo Pants are not allowed.
CURRICULUM
Q: Will the teachers or the school provide us with the syllabus for the year?
A: The teachers and school will be providing syllabuses for each grade. We will post when these will be made available.
SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST
Q: My daughter will be attending kindergarten at PHSSA. I was wondering if you could tell me if the headphones for the computer lab will be her personal set to use at school and that she will be able to take home after the end of the school year?
A: Yes, the headphones you buy will be for your child’s personal use and will be returned at the end of the year. It would be a good idea to label them with your child’s name.
